Terms
Terms of use
The short version: this site is free, it is general information rather than medical advice, you may quote it if you credit it, and the calculators are arithmetic on published averages rather than a measurement of you. Using the site means you accept what follows. Last updated 31 August 2026.
Who runs this site
MySleepMate is written and operated by Chaitanya Banerjee, a third-year medical student at Manipal Tata Medical College, in India. There is no company behind it. You can reach me through the contact page, and more about who I am is on the about page and the author page.
This is not medical advice
This is the most important term on the page, so it goes first rather than in small print at the bottom.
Everything here is general information about sleep, written for healthy adults. It is not medical advice, it is not a diagnosis, and it does not establish any clinical relationship between us. I am a student, not a licensed physician, and nothing on this site should be treated as coming from one.
If you persistently cannot sleep, if you are sleepy during the day despite spending enough time in bed, if you snore heavily or stop breathing in your sleep, or if you are considering changing any medication or treatment, speak to a qualified healthcare professional. Do not delay seeking care because of something you read here.
What the calculators do, and what they do not do
The calculators on this site perform arithmetic on published population averages. They do not measure you.
- They assume a 90-minute sleep cycle, which is an average. Real cycles run roughly 70 to 120 minutes and vary within a single night and between people.
- They add a falling-asleep time that you supply or that defaults to a typical figure. Yours will differ.
- They run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is transmitted, stored or logged, which is described in full on the privacy page.
The assumptions behind each number are stated on the page that uses it and traced to their sources in where sleep numbers come from. I have also written up how accurate sleep calculators actually are, including this one. Treat the output as a starting point, not a prescription.
Accuracy, corrections and no warranty
I research against primary sources and correct errors in public, with dates, in the corrections log. Questions still open are listed in the research log while they are open. The method is set out in the editorial standards.
That said, the site is provided as it is. I do not warrant that it is complete, current, uninterrupted or free of error, and I make no guarantee about any outcome from following anything here. Sleep science moves, sources get superseded, and I get things wrong. To the fullest extent the law allows, I am not liable for any loss arising from your use of this site.
If you find a mistake, tell me. Substantive corrections get published rather than quietly edited.
Quoting and reusing the content
The point of this site is to be quotable, so the rules here are deliberately permissive.
- You may quote it. Take a passage, a figure or a table, in an article, a paper, a presentation or a post, as long as you credit MySleepMate and link to the page you took it from.
- You may cite it in academic work on the same terms. Where the underlying claim comes from a published study, cite that study rather than me. Every page names its sources so that you can.
- Please do not republish pages wholesale, present the writing as your own, or run the site through a rewriting tool and publish the result under another name.
- Images are a separate matter. Photographs here are licensed from third parties under their own terms and are not covered by the permission above. Each is credited on the image credits page. Get your own licence before reusing a photograph.
Text and original charts are © 2026 Chaitanya Banerjee. Quoting with credit is fine and encouraged. For anything broader, ask.
Acceptable use
There are no accounts, no logins and no payments on this site, which removes most of the terms a site like this would otherwise need. What remains is short: do not attempt to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to the site or the infrastructure it runs on, do not scrape it in a way that degrades it for other readers, and do not use it for anything unlawful.
Advertising and links to other sites
This site carries Google AdSense advertising. I do not choose the individual ads, and an ad appearing here is not an endorsement of what it sells. What Google collects and how to opt out is set out on the privacy page.
Pages here link out to studies, journals, institutions and other websites. Those are not under my control. I link to them because they are the source of a claim, not because I vouch for everything else on them, and I am not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.
There are currently no affiliate links, no sponsored posts, no supplement partnerships and no mattress rankings on this site. If that changes it will be disclosed on the page where it appears and noted in the corrections log.
Changes to these terms
I may update this page. The date at the top changes when I do, and a substantive change gets an entry in the corrections log in the same way a factual correction does. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
I am based in India, and these terms are governed by Indian law. Nothing here removes any right you have under consumer law in your own country that cannot be removed by agreement.
Contact
Questions about these terms, corrections, permission requests or anything else: the contact page is the way to reach me, and I answer.
